| A medical health camp was organised by Arka Foundation, Mysore in association with Ranchhod Foundation, New Zealand at Arka Vidya Kendra – Govt. Lower Primary School, Gumachannahalli, Jayapura Hobli, Mysore on Tuesday, 10th August 2010 for students of Arka Vidya Kendra. | ||
| On that refreshing morning some of the Arka Foundation members, together with a paediatrician, student and international volunteers set out on a well needed medical camp mission to serve the students of the Arka Vidya Kendra in the remote village of Gumachanahalli. The medical camp for the pupils exclusively was most welcomed by the school Head Mistress, staff and parents. In keeping with the holistic education philosophy of Arka Foundation, pupils’ health and well being is a compulsory aspect of the integral Arka Dhyana inclusive education being offered at the school. | ||
| The Medical Paediatrician Dr. Chaaya Ananthakrishna kindly rendered her valuable service to examine and conduct a general health check up for all pupils enrolled at the school. In addition to the medical diagnosis, pupils were advised and reminded about their oral hygiene. The student volunteers from the nearby local colleges helped with the administration and issuing of the prescribed medications as per the medical paediatrician’s prescription and instructions. The school teachers were assisted by the local and international volunteers from the Centre for Conscious Awareness in United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand, to engage in activities with the pupils. | ||
| As the pupils patiently waited for their turns with the medical doctor, the educational learning activities were conducted in the local dialect and English language medium. The children were also involved in Arka Dhyana methods. The main thrust of combining Arka Dhyana in the pupils’ learning is to ‘bring awareness to the vibrant young minds of this ancient wisdom of being in oneness with their thoughts words and actions’. This is the fundamental guiding principle of Arka Dhyana integral education being implemented as part of the school curriculum and extramural activities. | ||
| The sweet smiles of the children during the medical camp reflect their innocence and connection to the ‘healing hands and warm hearts’ that went to serve them and contribute to their physical, mental, intellectual and spiritual well being. Overall the medical camp was well organized and went smoothly over a duration of approximately four hours. With the all important mission of the medical camp for the children accomplished, the volunteers bid farewell to a jubilant group of pupils greeting their ‘namaskars and goodbyes’. | ||
| Moments like this make life so meaningful as echoed in the profound words of Srinivas Arka. We must remember that to ‘serve the children is to serve the world’. | ||
